Buenos Aires-based production, sales and distribution company FilmSharks has picked up all worldwide rights to the new crime thriller by Argentina’s Sebastian Schindel, “A Silent Death” (Una muerte silenciosa”), to which it has sold Latin American theatrical rights to Disney’s Star Distribution, slated for release later in the year.
Said FilmSharks CEO Guido Rud: “This is likely to become one of the biggest Latin American films of the year. Sebastian Schindel has earned his stripes as the Master of Crime after the huge international success of his films ‘The Boss,’ ‘Anatomy of a Crime,’ ‘Crimes that Bind’ and ‘The Wrath of God.’”
“There is a huge appetite for crime films across all platforms,” noted Rud who also holds the remake rights to the film.

Starring Joaquín Furriel (“The Boss, Anatomy of a Crime,” Netflix’s “Rest in Peace”), Soledad Villamil (“The Secret in Their Eyes”) Alejandro Awada (“Nine Queens”) and Maria Marull (“Wild Tales”), the psychological thriller is set in the rugged landscapes of 1980s Patagonia where a seasoned hunting guide makes a startling discovery involving his niece, compelling him to investigate and uncover the dark secrets of that time to seek justice.
Furriel has won a string of awards for his past work, including a best supporting actor Platino Award for his role in the “The Kingdom” (“El Reino”) series and the Malaga Film Festival’s best actor Silver Biznaga for his perf in “Rest in Peace,” as well as several awards in Argentina and key film festivals.
He starred in what is deemed one of the best series to come out of Latin America, “The Bronze Garden.” He is currently the face of fashion brand Moncler for its Spring/Summer 2024 campaign.
Film was produced by Buffalo Film’s Esteban and Hori Mentasti (“The Wrath of God”), Nicolas Veinberg (“Elsa & Fred”) and Pampa Films’ Cabe Bossi, Pol Bossi and Pablo Bossi (“Nine Queens”).
“Making a film of this class in Argentina was a huge adventure,” said Hori Mentasti.
“We believe a world class film like ‘A Silent Death’ is in the best hands with The Walt Disney Company and FilmSharks,” added Esteban Mentasti.
FilmSharks is presenting the film to buyers at Cannes and has slated its Marché du Film market premiere on May 18, followed by a second screening the next day.
Other upcoming releases on FilmSharks’ slate include romantic thriller “55,” a U.S.-India co-production described as “Slumdog Millionaire” meets “City of God”; Stop Motion animation feature “Dahlia and the Red Book,” distributed by Disney’s Star in Latin America; Cannes-winning director Lucia Puenzo’s “Electrophilia” and sci fi horror drama “Pacific” starring Colombia’s Manolo Cardona (“Narcos”).
