Kristen Johnston Reunites With Chuck Lorre, Joins Leanne Morgan Netflix Comedy Series

Kristen Johnston will star alongside Leanne Morgan in the latter’s upcoming Netflix comedy series, PvNew has learned.

The untitled multi-cam comedy was picked up at Netflix in April with a 16-episode order. Morgan co-created the series with Susan McMartin and Chuck Lorre. The role marks a reunion for Lorre and Johnston, as Johnston previously appeared in the CBS multi-cam “Mom,” which Lorre also co-created.

The official description for Morgan’s series states: “Leanne’s life takes an unexpected turn when her husband of 33 years leaves her for another woman. Starting over when you’re a grandmother and in menopause isn’t exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity and jello salad.”

Johnston will star in the series regular role of Carol, Leanne’s sister. The character is said to be Leanne’s complete opposite. “She’s twice divorced with no kids, and if there’s a choice between going to church and going to a bar, she will always choose the latter,” the character description states. “Despite their differences, Carol is fiercely loyal to her sister and is her ride or die.”

Johnston won two Emmy Awards and received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in the NBC series “3rd Rock From the Sun,” which aired on the network for six seasons. On “Mom,” Johnston joined the show in a guest role in its fifth season, moved up to recurring in the sixth, and became a main cast member in its final two seasons. Her recent TV credits include “The Righteous Gemstones” and “Our Flag Means Death.” She has also starred in films like “The Flintstones: Viva Rock Vegas,” “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me,” and “Music and Lyrics.”

She is repped by Buchwald, Berwick & Kovacik, and Hansen Jacobson.

Morgan, McMartin, and Lorre all serve as executive producers on the project, as does Judi Marmel. Chuck Lorre Productions produces in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Lorre is under an overall deal.
