Kaleidoscope Film Distribution Acquires Global Sales Rights for George Michael docu<i></i>mentary, Lucy Lawless’ Directorial Debut ‘Never Look Away’

Kaleidoscope Film Distribution has unveiled its Cannes slate, including George Michael documentary “Portrait of an Artist.”

The company is also repping global sales rights for Lucy Lawless’ directorial debut “Never Look Away,” a documentary about photojournalist Margaret Moth, and “Forked,” a documentary about celebrity chef Susan Feniger.

“George Michael: Portrait of an Artist” features copious archive footage as well as interviews with Michael’s close friends and colleagues including Stephen Fry and Stevie Wonder. It’s directed by Simon Napier-Bell (“To Be Frank”) and produced by Euan Maclaren of Protocol Media and Eamonn O’Keefe (“Sucker Punch”). Executive producers include Miles Anthony, Rob Craine, Ade Dimberline, Ian Franses and Willi Kamarad.

Kaleidoscope have acquired worldwide sales rights bar a handful of smaller territory specific limited rights.

“Never Look Away,” directed by “Xena: Warrior Princess” star Lucy Lawless, premiered at Sundance earlier this year and is produced Tom Blackwell (“The Lie: The Murder of Grace Millane”) and Matthew Metcalfe (“6 Days”). Executive Producers include Tamir Ardon, Nate Bolotin, Christelle Conan, Maxime Cottray, Andrea Scarso and Peter Touche.

Kaledoscope, which is repping worldwide rights excluding U.K., Ireland, North America and Australia/New Zealand, will be releasing the documentary in the U.K. in late 2024.

“Forked” focuses on chef Susan Feniger, who’s appeared on “Too Hot Tamales” and “Top Chef Masters” among other projects, as she travels to Southeast Asia with a dream of infusing the street food scene in L.A. with revolutionary new flavours.

It is directed and produced by Liz Lachman and produced by Lisa Donmall-Reeve (“Uprooted: The Journey of Jazz Dance”) of LDRCreative. Kaleidoscope are selling worldwide rights excluding North America, U.K. and Ireland.

Other features on Kaleidoscope’s slate include “The Land of Sometimes,” featuring the voices of Ewan McGregor and Helena Bonham Carter, “The Problem with People” starring Colm Meaney and Paul Reiser, “The Listener” from director Steve Buscemi and slasher flick “Haunt Season.”

“Cannes is going to be an exciting time for us and documentary buyers,” said Spencer Pollard, CEO of Kaleidoscope. “Including the brilliant Sundance premiere ‘Never Look Away,’ our line up means we should have something on everybody’s shopping list!”
