Cord Jefferson’s “American Fiction,” about a author frustrated with Black stereotypes depicted by his colleagues, received both commercial and critical acclaim. The film would go on to be nominated at the Academy Awards for best picture, actor, supporting actor and original score. It won the prize for original screenplay.
