Ryan Murphy ABC Series ‘Dr. Odyssey’ Casts Don Johnson

Don Johnson is the latest addition to the cast of Ryan Murphy’s upcoming ABC series “Dr. Odyssey.”

PvNew has confirmed that Johnson will star in the series alongside previously announced lead Joshua Jackson. Plot and character details for the show are being kept under wraps, but sources say the series is believed to be a medical procedural. It is slated to premiere during the 2024-2025 broadcast season.

Johnson is best known for his starring roles in the police dramas “Miami Vice” and “Nash Bridges.” The former aired on NBC for five seasons between 1984 and 1989, while the latter aired on CBS from 1996-2001 for six seasons. He won a Golden Globe for his work on “Miami Vice.” Recently, Johnson appeared in shows like the NBC comedy series “Kenan” and the Emmy-winning HBO series “Watchmen.” His film credits include “Knives Out,” “Brawl in Cell Block 99,” “Tin Cup,” and “Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man.”

He is repped by CAA and Laird & Sobel.

Murphy is co-writing “Dr. Odyssey” with Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken. All three also serve as executive producers, as does Jackson. Murphy executive produces via Ryan Murphy Television.

Eric Paquette, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, and Nissa Diederich also executive produce. Paris Barclay is attached to direct and executive produce. 20th Television is the studio, where Murphy is under an overall deal.

This marks the latest series order for Murphy since he moved his overall deal back to 20th Television from Netflix. It was recently announced that he has set up the series “Grotesquerie” at FX, while his series “9-1-1” made its debut on ABC on March 14 after it moved over from Fox. Baitz and Baken have also collaborated with Murphy multiple times, most recently on “Feud: Capote vs. the Swans.” They are also working on “Grotesquerie” and Murphy’s legal drama at Hulu starring Kim Kardashian. He also has the “American Horror Story” franchise and the upcoming first entry of “American Sports Story,” which will focus on Aaron Hernandez.

Deadline first reported Johnson’s casting.
