‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ Renewed for Season 2, Multiple Spinoffs in the Works at Apple TV+

“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” has been renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+, PvNew has learned.

In addition, Apple has struck a deal with Legendary Entertainment to develop multiple spinoff series set in the so-called Monsterverse. Exact plot details for the spinoffs are being kept under wraps.

“‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ has left an indelible imprint on the hearts, minds and imaginations of audiences around the world, led by the brilliance of Chris, Matt, Kurt, Wyatt and the incredibly gifted talented cast and creative team,” said Morgan Wandell, head of international development for Apple TV+. “We couldn’t be more excited for viewers to not only have the chance to experience even more thrills in season two, but to embark on epic, new journeys in the franchise, as we expand Legendary’s Monsterverse.”

The first season of “Monarchy: Legacy of Monsters” starred Kurt and Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, John Goodman, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.

The official description for Season 1 states: “Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ tracks two siblings (Sawai, Watabe) following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows.”

The series was created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction. Both serve as co-showrunners and executive producers, with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures, Matt Shakman, Andrew Colville and Jen Roskind also executive producing. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of the Godzilla character. Toho licensed the rights to Legendary for “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.”

The Season 2 renewal and spinoffs deal marks the latest expansion of the Legendary Monsterverse. The company has found great success with the franchise on the big screen, beginning with their “Godzilla” film in 2014. Since then, they have released the films “Kong: Skull Island,” “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” “Godzilla vs. Kong, and most recently “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” Combined, the films have generated over $2 billion, with “The New Empire” shattering box office expectations with its release on March 29.
