‘Bob Marley: One Love’ Sets Paramount+ Release Date

‘Bob Marley: One Love‘ will soon be singing on Paramount+.

The biopic will release on the streamer on Friday, April 12, in the U.S. and Canada. The film’s international availability will be announced at a later date.

‘Bob Marley: One Love’ surpassed expectations at the box office when it opened mid-week in February for Valentine’s Day. It’s opening weekend stood at $28.6 million, and it’s surpassed $175 million at the worldwide box office so far.

Kingsley Ben-Adir stars as the reggae singer and songwriter, and Lashana Lynch plays his wife Rita Marley. The cast also includes James Norton as record producer Chris Blackwell, Tosin Cole as keyboardist Tyrone Downie, Aston Barrett Jr.asAston “Family Man” Barrett, Anthony Welshas Don Taylor, SevanaasJudy Mowatt, Hector Lewis asCarlton Carly Barrett, Michael GandolfiniasHoward Bloom, Nadine MarshallasCedella Malcolm, Umi Myers asCindy Breakspeare, Naomi Cowan asMarcia Griffiths, Jeff Crossley asClement “Coxsone” Dodd.

PvNew chief film critic Owen Gleiberman wrote, “Too often, ‘One Love’ feels like the downbeat, neurotic middle act of a conventional biopic —the hero lost in his identity crisis, hemmed in by fame — stretched out to feature length. The film tells you a lot about Bob Marley, yet it never quite figures out what his journey is. Lynch’s Rita is the movie’s most grounded character; her devotion to Marley, coupled with her understanding of his pain, is moving. But except for the scene in which Marley violently attacks his manager for trying to milk an African tour for profit, the Marley we see is close to a saint. The point of the new biopic mode was to reveal totemic figures in a more complex way. ‘One Love’ flirts with complexity but slides into the banality of hero worship.”
