“True Detective” was the fifth most-streamed title of the Feb. 5 to Feb. 11 viewing window, during which the fifth episode of “Night Country,” the anthology series’ fourth season, was released.
With 745 million minutes watched, the series saw a jump from the week before, when it ranked at No. 10 with 648 million minutes. These figures include streaming viewership of all of “True Detective,” not just “True Detective: Night Country,” though it’s clear that the season performed well in its own right based on data released when the season was still airing. It should also be noted that the Nielsen chart only accounts for streams on max, not linear viewers on HBO’s cable channel, where the network often sees approximately one-third of its viewership.
“True Detective” trailed right behind “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” which took fourth place for the second week in a row, though it dropped to 765 million minutes watched in its first full week of availability after debuting with 964 million.
“Mr. and Mrs. Smith” was one of only two streaming originals on the chart; the other was “Griselda,” which landed at No. 6 with 735 million minutes watched in its second full week of availability.
Every other chart position went to acquired titles. “Young Sheldon” continued the hot streak it began after being added to Netflix, taking first place with 1.3 billion minutes watched. It was followed by “Bluey,” the frequent chart dominator that was watched for 1.1 billion minutes this week. “Grey’s Anatomy,” another chart regular, took third place with 860 billion minutes.
“Royal Pains,” the USA network medical drama that concluded in 2016, took seventh place with 707 million minutes watched. Like “Suits” in the summer of 2023 and “Young Sheldon” currently, this is the latest series to see renewed interest after being added to Netflix, where it had its second full week of availability from Feb. 5 to Feb. 11, though it was already available on Amazon Prime Video.
The “Suits” effect hasn’t ended. The USA legal drama still often makes the bottom of the chart, this week at No. 10 with 652 million minutes watched. It was just behind two other popular acquired titles: “The Big Bang Theory” (690 million minutes) and “NCIS” (672 million minutes).
