Disney+ has released the first trailer for its series reboot of the classic sci-fi adventure series “Doctor Who,” lead by “Sex Education” star Ncuti Gatwa as the titular time jumper and Millie Gibson as his traveling partner Ruby Sunday. The premiere will stream on Disney+ on May 10 and release simultaneously worldwide (excluding the U.K.). In the United Kingdom, the series will premiere at midnight GMT on May 11 on the BBC iPlayer.
Other confirmed cast members include Aneurin Barnard, Anita Dobson, Yasmin Finney, Michelle Greenidge, Jonathan Groff, Bonnie Langford, Genesis Lynea, Jemma Redgrave, Lenny Rush, Indira Varma and Angela Wynter.
In the trailer, the 15th doctor and Ruby can be see roaming with the dinosaurs, ballroom dancing in victorian England and fighting off alien creatures in a war-torn future. In a peak at the climatic finish, Ruby triumphantly exclaims, “…to realize what I am meant to do. I’m going to save the world.”
In a conversation with PvNew, series veteran Russel T. Davies, who will serve as showrunner, executive producer and writer, expressed his excitement to return to the world of “Doctor Who.”
“At last, it’s my great delight to unleash a whole new season of the Doctor and Ruby’s adventures together,” Davies said. “Monsters! Chases! Villains! Mysteries! And a terrifying secret that’s been spanning time and space for decades. Don’t miss a second!”
“Doctor Who” is produced by Bad Wolf with BBC Studios for Disney Branded Television and BBC. Executive producers include Phil Collinson, Joel Collins, Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter. The new season features episodes directed by Ben Chessell, Jamie Donoughue, Julie Anne Robinson and Dylan Holmes Williams.
