The “Outlander” prequel series at Starz has cast its four lead roles.
In addition, Starz has announced that production is now underway in Scotland on the 10-episode series, which is officially titled “Outlander: Blood of My Blood.”
Harriet Slater (“Pennyworth,” “Belgravia: The Next Chapter”), Jamie Roy (“Condor’s Nest,” “Flowers and Honey”), Hermione Corfield (“The Road Dance,” “We Hunt Together”), and Jeremy Irvine (“War Horse,” “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”) have all been cast in the series.
The series will examine the lives of Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Slater) and Brian Fraser (Roy), as well as the origin story of Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston (Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Irvine). Per the official description, “The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie’s parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England.”
“We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples,” said Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner, executive producer and writer on both “Outlander” and “Outlander: Blood of My Blood.” “The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie.”
Slater is repped by The Artists Partnership in the UK and Untitled in the US. Roy is repped by Patrick Hambleton Management in London Cohesive Entertainment Group in Los Angeles.
“Blood of My Blood” was formally greenlit at Starz back in January 2023, while PvNew exclusively reported the show was in the works in February 2022. At the time of the greenlight, it was announced that “Outlander” would conclude with its eighth season. Production is set to begin soon on the final 10 episodes of the mothership series, while the final eight episodes of Season 7 will air later this year.
Roberts executive produces “Blood of My Blood” along with Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis, who developed “Outlander” for television, under their Tall Ship Productions banner. Story Mining & Supply Company will also executive produce, and “Outlander” author Diana Gabaldon serving as a consulting producer. Sony Pictures Television is the studio.
The “Outlander” TV series debuted on Starz back in 2014. It remains one of the most popular shows on the network even this late in its run. Season 7 consists of 16 episodes total, as Season 6 of the show was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
