ABC’s “Golden Wedding” showed a strong performance as fans gathered to watch the network’s first Golden bachelor, Gerry Turner, and Theresa Nist walk down the aisle.
The Thursday night broadcast reached an audience of 5.22 million total viewers and averaged a .63 rating among the key adults 18-49 demographic according to National Live+Same Day data from Nielsen. With the majority of the show’s viewership stemming from linear and streaming delayed-viewing, that number is likely to change with the release of multiplatform+7 day data which will become available at a later date.
In comparison, the season finale which aired on Nov. 30, managed to snag 6.1 million viewers, hitting a series high and making it the most-watched episode of any series in the “Bachelor” franchise since the conclusion of Matt James’ season in 2021.
Taking place at the La Quinta Resort and Club in La Quinta, Calif., the wedding was officiated by contestant Susan Noles.
“When I think of all the decisions we made here to be in this position tonight, I know the hand of God and the winds of fate have ordained this moment. From our first sip of chocolate shake to the last taste of Costa Rican coffee, I have learned that you are the woman I can’t live without. I learned that you make me calm with the touch of your hand. I’ve learned you make me laugh with the easy comfort of a long-lost friend. I’ve learned you are a strong and independent woman — and your strength gives me joy. I’ve learned that you make me a better person, a better man because of your sensitivity and soft voice,” said Turner in his vows.
“You are the love that came silently and without warning. You were authentic. Theresa, you have my heart, and I have yours,” Turner finished.
Over the course of the fall season, the show averaged 4.83 million total viewers and a rating of .60 among the key demo, meaning the “The Golden Wedding” outdelivered the show’s fall average by 8% in Total Viewers 5% the demo. When the show premiered last September, the new addition quickly became the “Bachelor” franchise’sbiggest debut since 2021 with 4.4 million viewers. Fast national data from Nielsen reveals viewership later steadied in the following weeks, dropping down to 4.3 million and then 4 million with Episodes 2 and 3, but grew higher from that point forward with Episodes 4-8 reaching 4.1 million, 4.4 million, 4.8 million, 4.9 million and 5.3 million viewers, respectively.
On social media, interactions for “The Golden Wedding” topped “The Golden Bachelor” season finale by 7% as the wedding recorded 166,500 impressions over the finale’s 155,000.
