As Major League baseball‘s post-season continues, Warner Bros. Discovery wants to talk baseball or beisbol.
Starting October 16, the company’s sports division will launch “Postseason ALTcast: Peloteros,” a so-called “alterna-cast” that will feature cultural conversations centered on the NLCS and the game of baseball as told through diverse voices and representation within the Hispanic community. The broadcast will appear on the TruTV cable network and the Max streaming hub while the traditional game broadcast appears on TBS and Max.
Sportscaster Alanna Rizzo will lead a panel of contributors that is expected to include top current and former Hispanic or Latino Major League baseballballplayers, including Pedro Martinez, Albert Pujols, Yonder Alonso, Nestor Cortes, and Kenley Jansen.
While the programs will be conducted in English, participants will break down live NLCS moments while nodding to theirHispanic heritage by sharing stories and memories.
The sports leagues and their various media partners have experimented with a variety of so-called “alternate telecasts” of football games in recent years. ESPN’s “ManningCast” features football greats Peyton and Eli Manning in a loose-talking conversation that might be held at a local bar. Disney’s Freeform in 2021once tried an NFL Wild Card game aimed at teens and young adultsthat had stars from its series mixing it up with then-ESPN personalities Maria Taylor and Jesse Palmer. Paramount Global’s Nickelodeon plans to broadcast a version of Super Bowl LVIII next year especially for young audiences.
Warner’s new program will have its own specialty music package, graphics, and set and will be broadcast fromstudios in Atlanta.
