“What does justice mean to you?”

That’s one of many questions asked in Season 2 of “True Crime Story: It Couldn’t Happen Here.”

The documentary series, hosted by advocate Hilarie Burton Morgan, returns with its second season on SundanceTV, AMC+ and Sundance Now, on April 18 at 10 p.m. ET. The new exclusive trailer below shows Morgan looking absolutely shocked during one reveal.

“The series puts a spotlight on cases from small towns across America, exploring how the crime affects the community as well as how the unique dynamics of the small town affects the investigation,” the press release reads.

During the six-episode season, the actress travels to Missouri, North Dakota, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas and Maine, meeting family members and locals in each episode, while trying to get to the bottom of different casts and meeting new challenges within each small town. Through her empathy and hard work, she explores how major crimes impact the communities and “shed light on previously adjudicated cases where doubt about the existing verdict lingers.”

“Fighting injustice in our country is a long and arduous process, and unfortunately the resources to do so are oftentimes out of reach for our most vulnerable communities,” Burton Morgan said. “As we head into this new season of‘It Couldn’t Happen Here,’ we are seeing growing momentum in the progress of our past cases – forensic testing, new hearings, wrongful imprisonment compensation, new witnesses coming forward – and it only solidifies our team’s desire to tell these stories with empathy and urgency.“

Season 1 proved to be key in raising awareness of overlooked cases, ultimately helping free Devonia Inman, who had been wrongfully imprisoned for 23 years.

“True Crime Story: It Couldn’t Happen Here” is a SundanceTV original series executive produced by Morgan, Robert Friedman, Dan Flaherty (who also directs), Mike Powers, Liz DeCesare, Po Kutchins, Liz Yale Marsh and Meg Mortimer.
