Spain’s onza Distribution has picked up international sales rights to Czech Republic hit period drama “Zlatá labut’” (“Golden Swan”).
onza will be presenting the show to the international market at the upcoming Series Mania TV festival.
The series has been created by Filip Bobinski, Jan Coufal and Petr Sizling at Prague-based Dramedy Productions (“The Manor House,” “Away From You”) for Czech broadcaster TV Nova (“Ulice,” “One Family”).
“Golden Swan,” a series, travels back to 1939, during the protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia under Nazi occupation, at the beginning of World War II, and follows young thief Bára Veselá, who enters the Golden Swan luxury department store in Prague while escaping from the police. After a series of accidents and mistakes, she becomes a saleswoman in the fashion department.
A new life opens up for Bára when owner Petr, son of the Kučera family, notices her. They fall in love with each other although they have to battle to satin their relationship during war.
The three-seasons series premiered on Jan. 26 last year on TV Nova’s SVOD platform Voyo.
It was launched on Feb. 2 on the Czech free-to-air market via TV Nova, with a strong audience result, with Season 1’s most viewed episode hitting a 29% audience share, nabbing more than one million eyeballs.
Season 3 will bring the series to an end next June.
“We are glad to represent this successful period drama series which we are sure will attract our international clients,” said Béatrice Nouh, head of sales at Madrid-based onza Distribution.
“It is a great example of the quality that can be found in productions from the region. We are thrilled to start this new collaboration with TV Nova,” she commented.
“We are thrilled that the stories of our heroines and heroes will travel beyond the borders of our region. I hope that our dramatic story from Prague in 1939 will touch the hearts of many viewers around the world,” Klara Follova, creative producer at TV Nova, added.
“Golden Swan” marks the newest addition to onza Distribution’s catalogue, which will be presented to international buyers at the upcoming editions of both Series Mania and MipTV, among top markets.
