‘Harry Potter’ Actor Miriam Margolyes Says Adult Fans ‘Should Be Over’ the Franchise by Now: ‘It’s for Children’

“Harry Potter” actor Miriam Margolyes is concerned about adult fans of the beloved franchise.

“They should be over that by now,” Margolyes said in a recent interview with New Zealand’s1News. “You know, I mean, it was 25 years ago, and it’s for children.Ithink it’s for children.”

Margolyes played Professor Pomona Sprout, who taught herbology at Hogwarts and was head of the Hufflepuff House. She appeared in 2002’s “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and 2011’s “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.”

“They get stuck in it,” Margolyes said. “I do Cameos, and people say, ‘Oh, we’re having a “Harry Potter”-themed wedding,’ and I think, ‘Gosh, what’s their first night of fun going to be?’ I can’t even think about it. No.”

Although she acknowledged that the fantasy film series is “wonderful” and that she’s “very grateful to it,” Margolyes reiterated that “it’s over.”

Back in June of last year, Margolyes shared a similar sentiment with Vogue UK, saying that the “Harry Potter” franchise “doesn’t mean as much to me as it does” to the fans.

“For me,‘Harry Potter’wasn’t important,”she said. “I was very glad I got the part and I enjoyed being in it and meeting all the people, but it’s not Charles Dickens.”

While Margolyes thinks “Harry Potter” is over, Warner Bros. Discovery evidently thinks otherwise, as the company is aiming to release a “Harry Potter” TV series on Max in 2026. The series — which will feature an all-new cast — is expected to span seven seasons, adapting each novel in J.K. Rowling’s best-selling book series.

“We spent some real time with J.K. and her team,” Warner Bros. DiscoveryCEO David Zaslav said in February. “Both sides are just thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max.”
