Best picture nominee “Poor Things” is coming to Hulu ahead of the Academy Awards.
The film, a Frankenstein-esque tale directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and starring Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe, will arrive on Hulu on March 7. It’s nominated for 11 Oscars, including best picture, lead actress and director.
“From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe),” the synopsis reads. “Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.”
Ruffalo nabbed a best supporting actor nomination, and writer Tony McNamara is up for adapted screenplay. The film is also nominated for original score, production design, cinematography, makeup and hairstyling, costume design and film editing.
Stone is a favorite for many Oscar pundits to win for best lead actress, but “Killers of the Flower Moon” star Lily Gladstone is also highly touted as a frontrunner. It will be one of the closest races at this year’s Academy Awards, which take place on March 10.
The film won the Golden Globe for best motion picture – musical or comedy earlier this year, and Stone took home the trophy for actress in a musical or comedy.
