As we know by now, Zack Snyder has massive plans for his “Rebel Moon” universe.
The franchise launches with the Netflix movie “Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire,” followed by a sequel that will be released next year.
Snyder is developing a “Rebel Moon” comic book series, mobile game (“I would love to do big console game,” he says), an animated component, and is even releasing his first book of photography featuring a collection of black and white portraits he shot on set. “We have sort of an arc for this storyline that is a little bit longer … This movie will end and, in April, you’ll get another one, which is really even crazier than this one,” Snyder told me at the “Rebel Moon” premiere Wednesday night in Los Angeles. “I think it’s going to be really fun for audiences to be able to so quickly get this second installment. And then beyond that, we have a few more ideas up our sleeve. So that’d be fun.”
I asked Zack and producer Deborah Snyder if they have any dream casting ideas for future film installments. “We have the dream cast,” Deborah said.
Zack added, “I have an embarrassment of riches. To dream bigger than that just seems rude.” But then, after I insisted he dream big, Zack said, “I think if I could get LeBron James in the movie … I know that sounds crazy. I’m just saying … but yeah, we’ll see as the story evolves.”
“Rebel Moon” star Sofia Boutella, who plays rebel leader Kora, could see her “Atomic Blonde” co-star and onscreen lover Charlize Theron coming on as her “wife” in a future installment. “That would be amazing,” she said. “I would love that.”
