The “Money Heist” spinoff series “Berlin” has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix.
The second season will once again see Pedro Alonso returning as the title character, along with fellow cast members Michelle Jenner as Keila, Tristán Ulloa as Damián, Begoña Vargas as Cameron, Julio Peña Fernández as Roi, and Joel Sánchez as Bruce.
The Spanish-language series serves as a prequel to the events of “Money Heist” (a.k.a “La casa de papel”). Like the original series, “Berlin” sees Alonso’s character and his gang working to pull off an ambitious heist worth millions of dollars. Filming for Season 2 will begin in 2025.
Per Netflix, the series was the most-watched series on the platform globally the week it premiered and hit the Top 10 charts in 91 countries. It remained in the Top 10 on the non-English TV charts for seven consecutive weeks and has been amassed 53 million total views. It is now the ninth most-watched non-English language series in Netflix history.
“Money Heist: Berlin” was created by “Money Heist” creator Álex Pina as well as Esther Martínez Lobato.
“Berlin” is the latest expansion of the “Money Heist” franchise at Netflix following the monumental success of the original series. The streamer also debuted a Korean version of the show dubbed “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area,” which premiered in two parts in June and December 2022.
“Money Heist” originally debuted on Spanish TV channel Antena 3 before Netflix acquired worldwide streaming rights to the series in 2017. Its popularity exploded across the globe, with the show quickly becoming one of the most-watched non-English language shows in its history.
