Congratulations are in order for Kali Uchis and rapper Don Toliver who have announced they are expecting their first child together in a tender new visualizer for Uchis’ incoming album, “Orquídeas.” The three-minute clip is the supplement to a pair of sultry songs — “Tu Corazón Es Mío” and “Diosa” — on Uchis’ fourth studio record which is set to make its official debut on Friday.
Uchis also reposted a clip of the video, which features home footage of her and Toliver as children, on social media, writing, “The greatest moment of my life was when we first heard your heartbeat. Since then our new little family has already taught me a love I’ve never known. To a lifetime of more great memories.”
“This love I have is for you / Always been big on loyalty / I know that you’re mine entirely / All that you need’s inside of me,” Uchis sings in Spanish over a dreamy beat on “Tu Corazón Es Mío.” The latter half of the video transitions into “Diosa,” where Uchis and Toliver are seen driving on a cliffside as Uchis sings about being a “Diosa” (“Goddess”) and “giving offerings to your goddess every day.”
“Orquídeas” includes the already-released singles “Muñekita,” which features El Alfa and City Girls’ JT, “Labios Mordidos” with Kali Uchis, and “Te Mata.” It follows her third studio album,“Red Moon in Venus,” which PvNew named one of the Best Albums of 2023.
“The orchid is the national flower of Colombia, and we have more species of orchid than anywhere on earth,” the Colombian-American singer said in a statement ahead of the album’s release. “I always felt distinctly intrigued and magnetized by the flower. This album is inspired by the timeless, eerie, mystic, striking, graceful and sensual allure of the orchid. With this vast scope of fresh energy, I wish to re-define the way we look at Latinas in music.”
