Simu Liu is set to star in what is described as an espionage techno-thriller that has been ordered straight to series at Peacock.

The announcement was made at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena. The untitled series hails from Thomas Brandon (“Legacies”) with James Wan attached as an executive producer.

The official description of the series reads, “Five minutes in the future, a first-generation-American intelligence analyst Alexander Hale (Liu) realizes his brain has been hacked, giving the perpetrators access to everything he sees and hears. Caught between his shadowy agency and the unknown hackers, he must maintain a performance 24/7 to flush out who’s responsible and prove where his allegiance lies.”

Brandon serves as writer and executive producer, with Liu set to executive produce in addition to starring. Wan will executive produce via Atomic Monster along with Michael Clear and Rob Hackett. Danielle Bozzone will oversee for Atomic Monster. UCP is the studio.

The role marks a return to TV for Liu, who previously starred in shows like the popular CBC comedy “Kim’s Convenience.” He is best known, however, for his starring role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film “Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings.” A sequel to that film is currently in the works. Liu has also recently appeared in films like “Barbie” and will be seen in upcoming releases like “Arthur the King.”

He is repped by CAA, Authentic Talent & Literary Management, and Sloane Offer.

The new show also marks the latest series order for Atomic Monster at Peacock. In late 2022, the streamer ordered the series “Teacup” from Ian McCulloch with Wan executive producing. That series is inspired by the novel “Stinger” by Robert McCammon.

Wan is repped by CAA, Stacey Testro International, and Myman Greenspan. Brandon is repped by TFC.
