‘Grendel’ TV Series Adaptation Not Moving Forward at Netflix

“Grendel” is no longer happening at Netflix, PvNew has /confirm/ied.

based on Matt Wagner’s popular comic books, the series (which had an eight episode order) follows Hunter Rose, a fencer, writer and assassin who fights organized crime in New York to avenge the death of a lost love, until he ends up taking over the crime scene himself. It was originally picked up at Netflix in September 2021.

Producers now have the option to auction the project elsewhere. No further information has been released.

Abubakr Ali is set to play the show’s titular role. Ali is known for playing Sebastian ‘Bash’ Kamal-Stern in “Power Book II: Ghost.” His other credits include playing Raj Patel in “Katy Keene” and a leading role in “What If?,” the upcoming feature from Orion Pictures and Killer Films directed by Billy Porter.

Also among the cast is Jaime Ray Newman (“Dopesick,” “The Time Traveler’s Wife”) as Jocasta Rose, Julian Black Antelope (“The Flash,” “Debris”) as Argent, Madeline Zima (“Californication,” “Hacks”) as Liz Sparks, Kevin Corrigan (“Scenes from an Empty Church,” “The Get Down”) as Barry Palumbo, Emma Ho (“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” “The Expanse”) as Stacy Palumbo, Erik Palladino (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Watchmen”) as Teddy Ciccone, Brittany Allen (“What Keeps You Alive”) as Annabelle Wright and Andy Mientus (“The Flash,” “Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings”) as Larry Stohler.

“Grendel” is written and executive produced byResident EvilandSupernaturalalum Andrew Dabb. Wagner also serves as an executive producer alongside Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg and Chris Tongue on behalf of Dark Horse.

Netflix continues to expand its relationship with Dark Horse despite this set back and has several projects in the works including “Mind MGMT” and “Revenge Inc.” The streamer also recently renewed “Umbrella Academy” for a fourth and final season.

Netflix’s other upcoming genre projects in the pipeline includes “Wednesday,” “The Midnight Club,” “The Witcher: Blood Origin,” “Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities,” “3 Body Problem,” “One Piece,” “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” and “Stranger Things 5.”
