Taylor Swift Named Apple Music’s Artist of the Year; Morgan Wallen Tops Global Songs Chart

After dominating the charts, touring the world and launching her own concert film, Taylor Swift has been named Apple Music‘s Artist of the Year.

The platform unveiled its year-end charts ranking 2023’s top songs, top Shazams, and, for the first time, the songs music fans sang along to the most usingAppleMusic Sing. Swift was the most listened-to artist by Apple Music subscribers, simultaneously setting a new all-time record for the most listeners for any artist in a single year on Apple Music. Bad Bunny was last year’s Artist of the Year. “In the first 10 months of 2023, she saw 65 songs reach Apple Music’s Global Daily Top 100 — more than any other artist,” said the service in a press release.

Apple’s Top Global Songs list was led by Morgan Wallen‘s “Last Night” as the first country song since “Old Town Road” (2019) to top the chart. Across the 100 songs on the chart, 11 country songs led the list — rising from four last year. Also getting a big look is música Mexicana and Afrobeats. On the Top 100 2023: Shazam chart, Rema’s “Calm Down” leads the list while “Rush” by Ayra Starr and “People” by Libianca also end the year among the world’s most Shazamed songs. Also this year, and for the first time ever, a total of four Música Mexicana songs make the list; making it into the top 20 is Peso Pluma and Eslabon Armado’s “Ella Baila Sola” (No. 18) while Grupo Frontera and Bad Bunny’s “un x100to” lands at No. 70.

Apple Music spotlighted numerous year-end Charts, like the Top Fitness Songs Chart, where British dance duo Punctual lead with “Do It All Again (feat. Jordan Shaw),” and the Top Songwriters Chart, where Drake pulls in more streams than any other songwriter, among others.
