Amanda Seyfried to Star in ‘Long Bright River’ Limited Series at Peacock From Liz Moore, Nikki Toscano

Amanda Seyfried is set to star in Peacock‘s limited series adaptation of the Liz Moore novel “Long Bright River,” PvNew has learned.

The series is described as a suspense thriller. Per the official logline, the show “tells the story of Mickey (Seyfried), a police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighborhood hard-hit by the opioid crisis. When a series of murders begins in the neighborhood, Mickey realizes that her personal history might be related to the case.”

Moore is adapting her book for the screen alongside Nikki Toscano (“The Offer,” “Hunters”), with both also serving as executive producers and Toscano serving as showrunner.

“’Long Bright River’ tells a story about the collective power of an underserved community,” said Moore and Toscano in a joint statement. “We are thrilled that Amanda Seyfried will lead this series about how those initially perceived as victims can band together to regain their power. Moore’s family history and her work with harm-reduction and community-service organizations in Philadelphia informed the series, which aims to portray with compassion the lives of those struggling with addiction and the family members who love them.”

This marks the latest lead role in a limited series for Seyfried. She won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her work in Hulu’s “The Dropout,” in which she starred as disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. Seyfried also recently starred in the limited series “The Crowded Room” for Apple TV+. Her other TV work includes “Big Love,” “Veronica Mars,” and the revival of “Twin Peaks.” On the film side, Seyfried earned an Oscar nomination for “Mank” in 2021. She has also starred in films like “Mean Girls,” the “Mamma Mia” franchise, and the 2012 adaptation of “Les Misérables.”

Seyfried will executive produce “Long Bright River” in addition to starring. Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty and Amanda Lewis will executive produce for Original Film, while Amy Pascal will executive produce via Pascal Pictures. Hagar Ben-Asher will direct and executive produce the first episode. Sony Pictures Television and UCP will produce.

Seyfried is repped by Innovative Artists and Frankfurt, Kurnit, Klein and Selz. Toscano is repped by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Felker Toczek. The Gotham Group brokered the sale of “Long Bright River.” Moore is repped by WME. Ben-Asher is repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
