International sales agency the Playmaker has signed a deal with Blue Finch Film Releasing to distribute the one-shot horror film “Home Sweet Home — Where Evil Lives” in the U.K. and Ireland.
Thomas Sieben’s film, which made its world premiere in August at FrightFest in London, has its market premiere at AFM. The film, which is produced by “Resident Evil””” studio Constantin Film, will also screen at Imagine Fantastic Film Festival in Amsterdam and Splat! FilmFest in Warsaw.
In the film, Maria, a newlywed and pregnant, must uncover the dark secrets of her husband’s family, and escape their cursed house before the sinister forces consume her and her unborn child.
Maria is played by Nilam Farooq, her father-in-law is played by Justus von Dohnányi and her husband Viktor is played by David Kross.
“’Home Sweet Home’is an accomplished feat of genre filmmaking, which does something fresh with familiar tropes. It is a genuinely nerve-wracking viewing experience,” said Mike Chapman, managing director of Blue Finch.
Moritz Hemminger, the Playmaker’s head of sales and acquisitions, described Blue Finch as “true specialists when it comes to festival-driven genre films.”
The film is produced by Constanze Guttmann and Friederich Oetker at Constantin Film. It is co-produced by Benedikt Böllhoff and Max Frauenknecht at Viafilm. The executive producers are Martin Moszkowicz and Christoph Müller. The production was supported and funded by the German Federal Film Board and the German Federal Film Fund.
The theatrical distributor in Germany is Constantin Film Verleih, which will release the film on Jan. 25.
Sieben’s first feature film, “Distanz,” starring Ken Duken, opened the Perspektive Deutsches Kino section at the Berlinale in 2009, and screened at over 25 festivals. Since then, Sieben has directed and written three more feature films: “Staudamm,” “Kidnapping Stella” and “Prey.” The last two played worldwide as Netflix Originals. Sieben has also served on various film and series as a screenwriter.
The Playmaker will be hosting a market screening of “Home Sweet Home” at AFM at 11:30 A.M. on Nov. 2.
