James Brolin, Lizzy Greene (“A Million Little Things”), and Eoin Macken (“La Brea”) are set to join Netflix’s upcoming romantic drama “Ransom Canyon,” PvNew has /confirm/ied.

They join previously announced leads Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly. Kelly will portray Quinn, a character who “has often found herself in the shadow of others, but after a stint in New York pursuing her career as a concert pianist, she has returned to Ransom Canyon to carve out a new path for herself.”

Duhamel is set to play Staten Kirkland, the “steadfast and stoic” owner of the Double K Ranch. Staten “leads the charge to resist outside forces threatening his way of life and the land that he loves,” reads the description.

based on the books by Jodi Thomas, the series is described as a romance-fueled family drama and contemporary Western that “charts the intersecting lives of three ranching families, all set against the rugged expanse of Texas Hill Country,” per the official logline.

Brolin is slated to play ex army captain, Cap Fuller, who also serves as the stubborn owner of Fuller Ranch. After the death of his only son, Cap spends his days buried in work and an occasional drink though his once famous ranch has since fallen into disrepair. In an attempt to save the ranch from pressures to sell, he hires a new foreman, Yancy Grey. Cap is kept in check by Ellie, the daughter of a fallen brother in arms, who regularly checks in on him.

Greene stars as Lauren Brigman, Ransom Canyon’s head cheerleader. The daughter of the town Sheriff and girlfriend of the town’s star quarterback, Reid Collins, Lauren’s life seems to be all put together. But, under the surface, her dream is to make it out of the small Texas town by making the cheer team at UT Austin. The only problem is her strict father wants her to stay in Ransom. Lauren’s only reprieve comes in the form of a new, unexpected love interest, Lucas Russell, a kind-hearted underdog from the other side of the tracks who her father and her friends do not approve of.

Macken plays the charming, ivy-educated owner of the modern Bar W Ranch, Davis. “Unlike his counterpart Staten Kirkland, Davis is intent on capitalizing on the invaluable aquifer running below Ransom’s ranch land. But this is far from the first issue that Staten and Davis have butted heads over. The two biggest landowners in Ransom, the Kirkland and Collins families have been feuding for generations. But passionate stances on the water pipeline aren’t the only thing Davis and Staten share — both have fallen hard for the beguiling Quinn O’Grady, lavender farmer and owner of the local dancehall in Ransom,” reads the official description.

Brolin is best known for his starring role in “Marcus Welby, M.D.,” which earned him the Emmy and two Golden Globe awards and starring in the immensely popular drama “Hotel.” He recently starred in Pixar’s “Lighyear” and season 2 of Netflix’s “Sweet Tooth,” which he narrates. Previously, Brolin wrapped a four-season run as the gregarious patriarch on the #1 CBS comedy series “Life in Pieces”

Perhaps best known for his role on “La Brea,” Macken’s other credits include “Merlin” as hero ‘Sir Gwaine.’ He went on to play the lead role of ‘Dr. TC Callahan’ in NBC’s “The Night Shift.” His other television projects include the lead of ‘Karl D’ Branin’ in SyFy’s “Nightflyers,” and recurring in the Emmy-winning Showtime series “The Tudors.” He also starred opposite Stephen Moyer, Rufus Sewell and Kelsey Grammer in National Geographic Channel’s Emmy-nominated series “Killing Jesus.”Up next, Macken will be staring in the new Roku series, “Borderline.”

Greene recently starred in ABC’s “A Million Little Things,” which ended with its fifth season in 2023. Greene played Sophie Dixon, the 16-year-old daughter to Jon and Delilah Dixon (played by Ron Livingston and Stephanie Szostak).

Netflix first greenlit the series with a 10-episode order in December 2023. April Blair created the series and serves as executive producer. Amanda Marsalis (“Ozark,” “Umbrella Academy”) is attached to direct the first two episodes. Most recently, Blair created the CW series “All American.” Her other credits include the Max reboot of “Gossip Girl,” “Wednesday,” “You,” “Reign,” and “Hart of Dixie.” Dan Angel is also an executive producer on “Ransom Canyon.”

Deadline first reported this casting news.
