Warner Bros.’ “The Nun II” debuted atop the U.K. and Ireland box office with £1.7 million ($2.1 million), according to numbers released by Comscore.

Yash Raj Films release “Jawan,” headlined by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, bowed in second place with a strong £1.3 million.

In its second weekend, Sony’s “The Equalizer 3” collected £1 million in third position for a total of £4.7 million. In fourth place, in its eighth weekend, Warner. Bros.’ “Barbie” earned £561,118 for a mighty total of £93.7 million. The film is, by some distance, the highest grosser of the year in the territory and is in seventh position on the all-time chart behind “Spectre” (£95.2 million).

Studiocanal’s “Past Lives” debuted in fifth place with £515,509. In its eighth weekend, Universal’s “Oppenheimer” grossed £483,101 in sixth place for a total of £56.3 million.

The only other debut in the top 10 was Universal’s “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3,” which took in £411,191 in seventh place. Angel Studios’ “Sound of Freedom” collected £253,174 in eighth place in its second weekend and now has a total of £1.3 million.

Coming up, on Sept. 14, Dogwoof is opening music documentary “Angelheaded Hipster: The Songs of Marc Bolan & T. Rex,” which sits alongside Sept. 15 release, Munro’s T-Rex themed “Bolan’s Shoes.”

On Sept. 15, there are also a glut of further releases, the widest of them being Disney’s latest Hercule Poirot adventure “A Haunting in Venice,” with Kenneth Branagh, Michelle Yeoh, Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, Kelly Reilly and Camille Cottin; and Signature Entertainment’s “Rise of The Footsoldier: Vengeance,” with Craig Fairbrass, Josh Myers, Jamie Foreman, Sadie Frost, ArrDee and Tara Fitzgerald, both of which are opening across more than 300 locations.

Other highlights include documentaries – Dartmouth’s “The Nettle Dress” and Tape Collective’s “If The Streets Were On Fire.” BFI is opening Fukada Koji’s 2022 Venice title “Love Life,” while Modern Films is bowing Babak Jalali’s 2023 Sundance film “Fremont.”

Sept. 16 is Batman day and to commemorate the occasion Park Circus is re-releasing “Batman,” “The Dark Knight” and “Joker.”
