Netflix has ordered the drama “Ransom Canyon” to series, with Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly set to star.

Netflix has given “Ransom Canyon” a 10-episode order. The series is described as a romance-fueled family drama and contemporary Western. The official logline states that the show “charts the intersecting lives of three ranching families, all set against the rugged expanse of Texas Hill Country.”

Duhamel will star as Staten Kirkland, described as the owner and sole occupant of the sprawling Double K Ranch. He is further described as “Steadfast and stoic, Staten leads the charge to resist outside forces threatening his way of life and the land that he loves.”

Kelly will play Quinn. It is said that the character “has often found herself in the shadow of others, but after a stint in New York pursuing her career as a concert pianist, she has returned to Ransom Canyon to carve out a new path for herself.”

April Blair created the series and serves as executive producer. Amanda Marsalis (“Ozark,” “Umbrella Academy”) is attached to direct the first two episodes. Blair most recently created the CW series “All American.” Her other credits include “Wednesday,” “You,” “Reign,” “Hart of Dixie,” and the Max reboot of “Gossip Girl.” Dan Angel is also an executive producer on “Ransom Canyon.”

Duhamel is known for roles in films like the “Transformers” franchise as well as features like “Shotgun Wedding,” “Love, Simon,” and “The Lost Husband.” In TV, he recently starred in “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” at Disney+ and the NBC miniseries “The Thing about Pam.”

Kelly is perhaps best known for her role in the NBC drama series “Friday Night Lights.” Her other TV roles include shows like “Euphoria,” “The Path,” and “Titans.” She has also starred in films like “Searching for Sonny,” “500 Days of Summer,” “The Butler,” and “Papa: Hemingway in Cuba.”

Duhamel is repped by CAA, John Carrabino Management, and Hansen Jacobsen. Kelly is repped by Gersh and Artists First. Blair is repped by Verve and Goodman Genow.

“Ransom Canyon” is the latest romantic drama to be commissioned at Netflix. The streamer has found great success in the genre with shows like “Virgin River” and “Sweet Magnolias,” with the former show having aired five seasons to date with the latter airing three.
