On the heels of the “Gen V” Season 1 finale, “The Boys” are back!
The first trailer for Season 4 of Prime Video very R-rated superhero show released on Saturday. The last time we saw “The Boys,” they were dealing with the fallout from their battle with Homelander (Antony Starr) and Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles). Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), who secretly has blood-bending, brain-exploding powers, is also on the campaign trail and in line to be U.S. Vice President. Season 4 will hit the campaign trail as the election looms, and pro- and anti-supe protests break out.
The trailer shows Starlight (Erin Moriarty) getting back into action after hanging up her costume, a young girl with Xenomorph-like aliens shooting from her mouth, another supe with body-splitting powers, a mysterious worm crawling around in Butcher’s head and a bloody Homelander smiling widely at the end. There’s also a first look at Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s new character meeting Butcher, which marks a “Supernatural” reunion for Morgan and “The Boys” creator Eric Kripke.
“Gen V,” the first spinoff in “The Boys” universe, wrapped up its Season 1 last month. The series took place at Godolkin University, a college for superpowered young adults. The cast of youngsters uncovered an evil program called The Woods, which was developing a virus to kill supes. In the post-credits scene of Season 1, Butcher appears at the now defunct facility and starts to investigate.
Butcher wasn’t the only “Boys” star to make a cameo in the “Gen V” finale. Homelander himself also swooped down to, kind of, save the day after crazed test subjects from The Woods escaped and wreaked havoc on Godolkin’s campus. After the main cast of heroes from “Gen V,” Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Andre (Chance Perdomo), Emma (Lizze Broadway) and Jordan (Derek Luh and London Thor) saved the day, they were actually framed for the attack and locked away in a mysterious room. Homelander and the new “Guardians of Godolkin” Sam (Asa Germann) and Cate (Maddie Phillips) took all the credit.
“The Boys” Season 4 is sure to follow up on these “Gen V” story threads, or they’ll get resolved in “Gen V” Season 2. This week, news also broke that a Mexico-set spinoff is also in the works with writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer and Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal attached as executive producers.
