Apple has hiked the price of its Apple TV+ streaming service for the second time in a year.
The tech giant updated the pricing info for Apple TV+, along with its Apple Arcade and Apple News+ subscription services and Apple One bundles, on its website Wednesday. The new price of Apple TV+ is $9.99/month in the U.S., up from $6.99 previously. The annual price is increasing from $69 to $99 per year. Existing subscribers will see the price increases 30 days later, on their next billing renewal date.
Apple first raised the price of Apple TV+ for new and existing subscribers in October 2022, when it kicked the subscription from $4.99 (the price point it originally launched with in November 2019) to $6.99 per month.
“Since launching four years ago, Apple TV+ has made history for streaming services by crossing major milestones in a short span of time, thanks to its extensive selection of award-winning and broadly acclaimed series, feature films, documentaries, and kids and family entertainment,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.
The company does not disclose how many subscribers it has for Apple TV+, which is part of its overall strategy to drive up recurring revenue through subscriptions. Apple TV+ offers dozens of original titles, including Emmy-winning series “Ted Lasso,” “The Morning Show,” “Lessons in Chemistry,” “Invasion,” “For All Mankind,” “Severance,” “Bad Sisters,” “Mythic Quest” and “Pachinko,” as well as films like the 2022 Oscar best picture winner, “CODA.”
Apple TV+ also includes kids programming, including new and classic Peanuts specials, and offers access to MLB’s “Friday Night baseball” live games and Major League Soccer matches.
In addition to hiking the price of Apple TV+, the company is raising prices of the Apple Arcade unlimited games package from $4.99 to $6.99/month and Apple News+ from $9.99 to $12.99 per month in the U.S. — the first time it has raised fees for those services.
Apple Arcade “continues to offer players unlimited access to hundreds of incredibly fun games — nearly tripling the titles available when the service first debuted in 2019 — with exciting new games and updates added monthly,” the Apple rep said in an emailed statement. Apple News+ “has added more than 100 top newspapers and magazines to include a total of over 450 publications, a catalog of narrated audio articles from News+ publishers, local news collections in over 20 cities and regions, and a daily crossword and mini crossword puzzle.”
Prices for the Apple One multi-service bundles also are going up. In the U.S., the Individual plan (Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade and iCloud with 50 GB) increases from $16.95 to $19.95/month. The Family plan, shareable with up to five people (Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade and iCloud with 200 GB) goes from $22.95 to $25.95/month. And Premier, also shareable with up to five people (Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, Apple Fitness+ and iCloud with 2 TB) goes from $32.95 to $37.95/month.
