TV veteran Campbell Brown, after heading meta‘s news and media partnerships for almost seven years, is departing the internet giant this fall.

In a note to staff Tuesday, Brown said she will share additional details in the coming weeks about her next role, but that she will “remain affiliated with meta in a new consultant capacity,” according to Axios, which first reported her exit.

A meta spokesperson said the team headed by Campbell will be moved over to existing teams focused on media and sports partnerships development and operations. “Media and sports partnerships continue to be a priority for meta and its apps, and we look forward to working with Campbell in her new capacity as a consultant,” the rep said.

Brown, a former CNN host and NBC News reporter, joined meta (then known as Facebook) in January 2017. The company brought her on originally to promote news content on Facebook, including through direct funding agreements with news organizations, but meta has since then pulled back on the strategy. Last year, Brown announced that Facebook would shift its focus from initiatives like the app’s News tab and Bulletin newsletter platform to fostering creators on the platform.

As VP of global media partnerships at meta, Campbell led the team overseeing entertainment, sports and news for all meta platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Quest and Messenger. The team manages relationships with broadcasters, streamers, film studios, digital publishers, news publishers, sports teams and leagues.

In addition, Brown led a team working with governments and policymakers on new regulations for on-platform content and reducing misinformation on the platforms.

Before joining meta, Brown hosted CNN’s “Campbell Brown,” a daily prime-time news program focusing on politics. At NBC News, she was the host of the “Weekend Today” show and served as White House correspondent. Brown also is active in philanthropy and the nonprofit space, founding nonprofit education news site The Seventy Four and the Partnership for Educational Justice.
