TOM AND JERRY SINGAPORE
The first ever localized“Tom and Jerry”series, featuring the cartoon cat and mouse in Singapore, will premiere in Southeast and South Asia, Australia and New Zealand on Cartoon Network on Oct. 21. It will also stream on HBO GO in Southeast Asia. Episodes will be globally available via theCartoon Network Asia YouTube channel.
In the seven-part series, the cartoon frenemies weave through colorful neighborhoods, modern skyscrapers and city-in-nature experiences. New episodes will air weekly.
“It was important for us to create stories and environments that feel authentically Singapore – and at the same time honor the distinct animation style and sense of humor that has madeTom and Jerryso well loved for generations,” said Christopher Ho, head of kids at Southeast Asia, Warner Bros. Discovery.
“Tom and Jerry” has run to more than 500 episodes and 15 movies in an 83-year history, securing seven Academy Awards along the way. In the digital era, it has a global social reach of 50 million and almost 30 billion minutes watched on the Warner Bros. Kids YouTube channel.
JURY DECISION
Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair (“Salaam Bombay!,” “The Namesake,” “Queen of Katwe,” “Monsoon Wedding”) has been named as head of the South Asia film competition jury at the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. Anupama Chopra, festival director at Jio MAMI, says, “We are thrilled to welcome Mira Nair as the head of the jury – South Asia Competition. Mira is the OG disruptor! She has created an indelible mark on global cinema with her outstanding work.”
TGC APPOINTMENT
Los Angeles-based TGC Global Entertainment (TGC GE), the global distribution company launched by format veteran Phil Gurin to represent premium formatted content, has recruited Asia-focused marketing, sales and distribution specialist Rosemond Perdue to manage its sales into the fast-growingAsia-Pacific television market.
Perdue is founder of Los Angeles-based Breakthrough Now Media, which she established in 2019 to bridge the gap between Asian and US content and creators. In her new role, Perdue will promote TGC GE’s growing catalogue of formats, documentaries and non-scripted series acrossKorea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Mongolia, China, Philippines and Japan.
