‘Venom 3’ Adds ‘The Changeling,’ ‘Letterkenny’ Star Clark Backo

Clark Backo, best known for “The Changeling” and “Letterkenny,” has joined the cast of Sony and Marvel’s “Venom 3.”

The Tom Hardy-starring threequel, which is set to hit theaters on Nov. 8, also features Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor in undisclosed roles. Similarly, character details for Backo are being kept under wraps.

Kelly Marcel helms the antihero movie in her feature directorial debut, and wrote the screenplay from a story she developed with Hardy. The duo, who also developed the first two “Venom” installments, return to produce the film alongside Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal and Hutch Parker.

Reps for Sony and Backo did not immediately respond to request for comment on her casting.

Backo most recently starred opposite LaKeith Stanfield on Apple TV+ limited series “The Changeling,” paying Emma, wife to Stanfield’s Apollo and a new mom who is suffering emotionally and vanishes without a trace. Marcel served as creator, executive producer and showrunner on the series and the dramatic turn earned Backo a nomination for an Indie Spirit award for breakthrough performance in a new scripted series.

The Canadian-Cameroonian actor is perhaps best known for playing Rosie on the long-running Canadian comedy “Letterkenny,” which released its 12th and final season in December on Hulu. Backo has appeared on the series since Season 2.

Her TV credits also include CW series “Supernatural” (and its spinoff pilot “Wayward Sisters”), Netflix’s “21 Thunder,” Hulu’s “The Handmaids Tale,” CBC’s “Shoot the Messenger,” Netflix’s “Hemlock Grove,” Starz’s “The Girlfriend Experience,” ABC’s “Designated Survivor” and National Geographic’s “The Hot Zone.”

Backo’s recent film roles include Jason Orley’s romcom “I Want You Back” for Prime Video and Blumhouse’s “Seven in Heaven.” She recently wrapped filming a lead role in the independent film “No Running,” produced by Eric B. Fleischman and Maurice Fadida, as well as the indie drama “Confessions.”

“Venom 3” marks Backo’s break into big-budget filmmaking, with the first two “Venom” films (2018’s “Venom,” directed by Ruben Fleischer and the 2021 sequel “Let There Be Carnage,” helmed by Andy Serkis) earning a combined $1.3 billion at the box office. In April 2022, Sony announced that a third film was in the works during its CinemaCon presentation, bringing back Hardy’s Eddie Brock and Venom back to the big screen after their credits sequence cameo in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

Backo is repped by Fatmata Kamara, Linden Entertainment, The Lede Company and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
