Bleecker Street has acquired the U.S. rights to the psychological sci-fi thriller “Slingshot,” starring Casey Affleck, Laurence Fishburne and Emily Beecham.
Directed by Mikael Håfström (“Evil,” “1408”), “Slingshot” follows an astronaut who struggles to maintain his grip on reality aboard a possibly fatally compromised mission to Saturn’s moon, Titan. The screenplay is written by R. Scott Adams (“Donner Pass”) and Nathan Parker (“Moon”). In addition to Affleck, Fishburne and Beecham, the cast includes Tomer Capone (“Fauda,” “The Boys”) and David Morrissey (“The Colour Room,” “The Walking Dead”).
The “Slingshot” creative team includes production designer Barry Chusid (“Source Code,” “Independence Day: Resurgence”), director of photography Pär M Ekberg (“Polar,” “Lords of Chaos”) and composer Lorne Balfe (“Mission: Impossible–Fallout,” “Black Widow”). Caroline Harris (“Outside the Wire,” “Black Mirror”) is the costume designer and casting directors are Chelsea Ellis Bloch and Marisol Roncali of Atomic Honey. Principal photography took place at Korda Studios and other locations in and around Budapest, Hungary.
“Slingshot”is an Astral Pictures production in association with Bluestone Entertainment, Széchenyi Funds Ltd. and Filmsquad. The film was produced by Richard Saperstein, Istvan Major and Beau Turpin, with executive producers Ivett Havasi, Shara Kay, Michael Hollingsworth, Tom Nohstadt, Ron Cundy, Nikolett Barabás, Jonathan Krauss, Brooklyn Weaver and Joanna Plafsky.
The deal was negotiated by Kent Sanderson and Avy Eschenasy on behalf of Bleecker Street with WME Independent on behalf of the filmmakers, who are also representing the international rights to the film. Bleecker Street is planning a 2024 nationwide theatrical release for “Slingshot.”
