Anonymous Content and Spain’s Morena Films, behind box office breakouts “Cell 211” and Champions, have named former Studiocanal executive Beatriz Campos as the managing director of their Spain-based film-TV production venture Anonymous Content España.
Campos will oversee the company’s day-to-day operations working closely with David Davoli, Anonymous Content’s president of international, and Morena Films CEO Pilar Benito, Anonymous Content and Morena Films announced Monday.Launched in May 2023, Anonymous Content España aims to develop and produce premium Spanish projects for a global market.
That is easily said, but several factors work in its favor and will be aided now by Campos’ appointment. As film and TV producers still battle a hugely competitive market and spiralling production costs, companies are reaching out for partners beyond national markets, a structure embodied in Anonymous Content España. Anonymous can also help Morena access U.S.-stars, which may allow their productions to stand out in the crowd.
ACE titles will reach 570 million Spanish-speakers worldwide, one factor which might explain how Spanish projects, often genre bending thrillers, such as Morena’s own prison transport van revenge actioner “Below Zero,” top Netflix and Prime Video charts. Currently, four of the five most viewed non-English movies ever on Netflix were made in Spain.
With revenue streams contracting in scale across international, producers now work closely with sales agents and international TV distributors to close financing on titles, with early sales serving as credit facility collateral. Here Campos’ can bring a large, invaluable and uncommon experience to the table, having served in her final position at Canal Plus Group-owned Studiocanal, one of Europe’s biggest film-TV companies, as senior VP, global sales and production financing.
In that capacity, Anonymous and Morena said Monday, Campos was responsible for supporting Studiocanal’s numerous in-house production companies across Europe, as well as driving sales and production financing for TV productions such as Daytime Emmy Award-winning series “The Adventures of Paddington,” whose third season was launched at Mipcom.
One of Europe’s best known TV sales executives, when at Studiocanal Campos secured financing for “All Those Things We Never Said” (Canal+ / Lionsgate+), “Dos Vidas” (RTVE), “La Promesa” (“The Vow,” RTVE), and “War of the Worlds” (Canal+/Disney/MGM+) Seasons 2 and 3. She sold a Mexican makeover of French Canal+ series “L’Effondrement” to ViX.
A bold swing in daily series, “La Promesa,” produced by Studiocanal and Spain’s Bambú Producciones, allowing for significantly higher production levels, proved so successful on RTVE that it helped boost its overall market share last year.“I’m of the belief that the single most important factor for the prosperity of any venture rests with the quality of the individual who leads it,” said David Davoli, president of international at Anonymous Content.
He added: “Beatriz, whom I have known for many years, shares the values and virtues that exemplify excellent leadership and is beloved by her peers in the international community. We are confident that with Beatriz at the helm of this venture in Spain, and with the help of our partners at Morena Films, success is only right down the road.”
“We are really excited to have Beatriz leading this new venture,” said Morena’s Benito. “Her experience and knowledge of the international film and TV landscape is not easy to find in our market and will allow her to develop, finance and produce ambitious projects with the power to cross borders and connect audiences worldwide.”
“I am beyond excited to join David and Pilar and the entire talented team at Anonymous and Morena Films, two companies I deeply admire for being exceptional storytellers with an impressive track record at producing premium and boundary-pushing projects,” said Campos. “After a wonderful journey at Studiocanal, I am thrilledto leverage my experience to build and bring dynamic, compelling and ambitious stories that will resonate across borders. I could not ask for better partners as I step into this new chapter.”
Before joining Studiocanal as VP of sales, Campos was a sales director at Endemol Shine Group. She began her career at ITV Global Entertainment, where she spent years managing finished and format sales for Spain, Portugal, and the Middle East.
