Netflix’s viral blind speed-dating experience is back. Season 5 of “Love Is Blind,” produced by Kinetic Content, will drop the first four episodes on Sept. 22.
The fifth season follows a new group of singles in Houston, Texas, a city never-before-explored on the reality dating show. Dubbed as “the most shocking season yet,” the cast members face new challenges and surprising turns that will test the bonds that appeared strong in the pods.
As always, the show will follow singles getting to know others from behind a wall, eventually getting engaged without ever seeing their partner in person. Over several weeks, the new couples will move in together and find out if their physical connection matches the emotional bond previously built — while also planning a wedding. On the big day, each person will choose to say “I do” or leave without tying the knot.
“The experiment is very simple, so it’s not at all a gimmick. It’s not like there’s a twist in the experiment from season to season. In fact, I think the beauty and the broadness of the potential of what ‘Love Is Blind’ can become every season is really elevated by the individuals who come on and enhance the story through their authenticity and their real journey to find love. It doesn’t evolve over time in terms of, ‘Oh, we’re going to do something different as producers,'” says show creator and Kinetic CEO Chris Coelen. “As a producer, the thing that we’ve tried to do better in every season is to be more and more transparent with the participants. And we’ve really done that from the beginning. There are no secrets on this show. We tell the participants everything. We tell them what they should expect, and what might be challenging. We are very communicative with them, and we also tell them consistently that we don’t put words in their mouth.”
He continues, “We don’t tell them what to say, what to do, what to think. We truly are documenting their journeys. If there’s anything that we’ve tried to do over time in the field with the participating individuals directly, it’s just to be as completely, ultimately transparent as we can. We encourage people to have questions and ask them of us.”
Nick and Vanessa Lachey return to host the 10-episode fifth season. Netflix will roll out new episodes of “Love Is Blind” each Friday; episodes 5-7 will arrive Sept. 29, episodes 8 and 9 will drop Oct. 6 and the finale will air on Oct. 13.
