‘Anatomy of a Fall’ Director Justine Triet Signs With CAA

Justine Triet, the French director whose Palme d’Or winning film “Anatomy of Fall” is nominated for five Oscars, has signed with CAA.

Triet is the only woman nominated for a directing Oscar this year. Since “Anatomy of a Fall” world premiered at Cannes, it went on to have a thriving run in the North American fall festival circuit, including at Telluride, Toronto and New York Film Festival, where it played to packed houses and earned stellar reviews. The movie just won a pair of Golden Globes for best foreign-language film and best screenplay (for Triet and Arthur Harari). “Anatomy of a Fall” is now vying for seven BAFTAs and five Oscars, including best film, director, actress (for Sandra Hüller), original screenplay and editing. It’s also nominated for 11 Cesar Awards in France.

In the film, Hüller (who also stars in other best picture nominee “The Zone of Interest”) plays a successful German novelist on trial for the murder of her husband, who died in mysterious circumstances outside their home in the French Alps. Their visually impaired 11-year-old son (Milo Machado Graner) is called on the witness stand, prompting a dissection of Sandra’s conduct as a wife and a mother. The film is produced by Marie-Ange Luciani at Les Films de Pierre and David Thion at Les Films Pelléas.

Prior to “Anatomy of a Fall,” Triet directed “Sibyl,” a melodrama laced with dark humor that competed at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. She broke through as a filmmaker with “Victoria,” a modern portrayal of an independent woman juggling a chaotic single life, motherhood and her career as a criminal lawyer. The movie, which marked her sophomore outing, opened at Cannes’ Critics Week in 2016. She made her feature debut with “Age of Panic,” which played at Cannes in the ACID sidebar, and was nominated for best first film at the Cesar Awards in 2014.

Along with CAA, Triet will continue to be represented by Elsa Huisman at Studio 112 and Veronique Bouffard at Zelig in France, Ithaka Media, and Sunshine Sachs Morgan & Lylis.
