Kate Hudson, the star of “Almost Famous,” “Glass Onion” and other screen projects, is making good on her longstanding promise to launch a music career as well, announcing Monday that she has signed with Virgin Music Group to release her recordings.

Hudson’s first single, “Talk about Love,” is due out Tuesday. The song was co-written by Hudson with Linda Perry and Danny Fujikawa, the latter of whom shared production duties with Johan Carlsson.

“I’ve been caught up writing and witnessing life in songs since I was a child,” Hudson said in a statement, indicating that her love of music predates her acting career. “But it always comes down to the moment, and the ability to make sure you can be there for the music. Finally, for me, that time is now. I’m so happy to be a part of the Virgin Music family. This has been a true labor of love and to have the full support of a team that nurtures an artist’s vision has been a refreshing and inspiring experience.”

Hudson is managed by Jason Owen and Jake Basden, the CEO and president, respectively, of Sandbox Entertainment. The Nashville-based firm is known for representing some of the top country artists in the world, including Kacey Musgraves, Kelsea Ballerini and Dan + Shay, but that is not an indication of Hudson’s direction, with the brief snippets of music she has teased on social media indicating a pop style.

“Kate is the kind of uniquely brilliant artist who will be right at home at Virgin Music,” said Jacqueline Saturn, Virgin Music Group North America’s president and the company’s EVP of global artist relations. “To be a part of her music debut is a truly special moment for all of us who work here.”

PvNew recently listed Hudson’s album — for which she co-wrote every song on the project — as one of the most anticipated of 2024. No release date or title have been offered for a full-length release.

She first revealed she was working on music in an April 2022Instagram postshowing her at a microphone and captioned, “Finally realized it’s time to say f#%! it and saaaannngg!!!!!” As December 2023 came to a close, shewrote,“Two and a half years in the making. Lockdown reminded me to have no creative regrets in life, take chances, don’t let anyone determine why or when you chose to put art in the world, be fearless in moves you make and music is my first creative love story that I would regret not sharing. Might be time… 2024 gonna be fun.”

Hudson is hardly leaving acting behind to take on this additional career. PvNew reported last week that she is set to star inMindy Kaling‘s upcomingNetflixcomedy series, which is set in the front office of a professional basketball team. The streamer has given the series a 10-episode order. Hudson is one of the executive producers on the project as well as taking on the starring role of a woman who is appointed as the president of the fictional Los Angeles Waves, a sports franchise that has been the family business.

Most recently on the acting side, she starred in the second season of the Apple TV+ drama series “Truth Be Told,” and she’s also worked alongside her brother, Oliver Hudson, hosting the popular podcast “Sibling Revelry,” which recently began its fourth season via iHeartPodcasts.
