Martin Moszkowicz, the outgoing chairman of the executive board of leading German film and TV company Constantin Film, will be honored with the Carl Laemmle Producer Award at a gala ceremony on May 16.
The award, presented by the Alliance of German Producers – Film & Television e.V. (Produzentenallianz) and the city of Laupheim, Germany, honors Moszkowicz for his life-time achievements.
The award recognizes his “versatile, impressive body of work as a producer of numerous nationally and internationally successful feature films and television productions,” according to the organizers.
Among the films Moszkowicz has overseen are “Fack Ju Göhte,” “The Collini Case,” “Resident Evil” and “Monster Hunter.”
The award is endowed with 40,000 euros and will be presented in Laupheim, the birthplace of Carl Laemmle, the co-founder of Universal Pictures, in front of invited guests from the worlds of film, politics and business.
Moszkowicz was unanimously chosen as this year’s winner by the 10-member jury. The jury statement reads: “In the tradition of Carl Laemmle, who gave the prize its name, Martin Moszkowicz stands for the international orientation of the ‘fifth art’. He combines high artistic standards with economic expertise and an instinct for commercial material and knows how to use marketing and distribution as irreplaceable instruments of successful films with great success.”
Ingo Bergmann, mayor of Laupheim, added: “Martin Moszkowicz has shaped the German and international film landscape for over 40 years. His enormous expertise and knowledge of the film industry, which he contributed as a jury member of the Carl Laemmle Producer Award, were invaluable in the early years of the award ceremony and contributed significantly to the great success of the event. His life’s work and his commitment to the film industry deserve the highest recognition and I am delighted that the town of Laupheim is able to provide a glamorous setting for the award ceremony.”
Björn Böhning, managing director/CEO of the Produzentenallianz, said: “Martin Moszkowicz is one of Germany’s leading producers. With exceptional skill and clever strategic planning, Moszkowicz has made a significant contribution to turning Constantin Film into one of the leading production and distribution companies worldwide. His unerring instinct for innovative projects and his ability to discover talent have resulted in numerous films that are not only commercially successful but also artistically significant. Congratulations on a career full of success!”
Next month, Moszkowicz is to step down as Constantin’s chief. At his own request, his contract will end on Feb. 29, and he will then continue to work as a producer for the company from March 1. The company’s supervisory board has appointed deputy chairman Oliver Berben to be chairman of the executive board as of March 1.
