On Aug. 24, 2018, she was sentenced in Fort Bend County, TX, to 20 years in prison for her part in the murder and dismemberment of her husband's ex-wife, Laura Ackerson, in 2011. She was convicted of tampering with evidence for helping her husband to dismember and dispose of Ackerson's body after he had murdered her. They had chopped up the body and dropped the parts in a nearby creek that was known to be infested with alligators, hoping that the animals would devour the evidence, but there was enough left to identify the body. Though the murder was committed in North Carolina, the body was disposed of in Texas, so the pair were tried there.
