Princess Charlotte of Wales (Charlotte Elizabeth Diana) is a member of the British royal family. She is the second child and only daughter of Prince William of Wales, Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall & Cambridge, and Catherine Princess of Wales. She is third in the line of succession to the British throne.Charlotte is, by birth, a princess of the United Kingdom entitled to the style of Her Royal Highness under letters patent issued by Queen Elizabeth II on 31 December 2012, which gave the title and style to all children of King Charles III's elder son. She is thus styled "Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Wales".Charlotte is third in the line of succession to the British throne, after her father, and elder brother. Due to the implementation of the Perth Agreement, which replaced male-preference primogeniture with absolute primogeniture, she did not move down the line of succession when her younger brother, Prince Louis of Wales, this makes her the first British princess to rank above a brother in the line of succession.

The first, born in 1796, was the only child of George, Prince of Wales (later King George IV), and she would have become queen of the United Kingdom had she not predeceased her father and grandfather George III, but she died in 1817 at age 21 from childbirth complications after giving birth to a stillborn son.Due to the passage of the Succession to the Crown Act 2013, which established absolute primogeniture for the British throne, she became the first princess to not be superseded in the line of succession by the birth of a younger brother.
