Robert 'Bob' Anderson was born in Detroit Michigan to Robert and Dorothy Anderson. The son of an auto factory worker and homemaker, Bob grew up surrounded by the auto industry. He actually grew up a half mile away from the General Motors Tech Center, the auto manufacturers' square-mile design and engineering campus. This sparked Bob's love of architecture, as the architect for this project was renowned architect and designer Eero Saarinen. He tells people, "I always thought it was cool looking back on my younger days that some of the coolest muscle cars of the 60's and 70's were on the board less than a mile away (at the GM Tech Center)". Bob was unexpectedly hit by a car as a pedestrian in college, his first of two near-death experiences, and that changed course of his life. He eventually became an automotive designer, but without a degree and tired of the auto industry ups and downs, he started his own business with 32 dollars and a lot of sweat equity.
