Mark Forbes is a London based, independent Scottish filmmaker from Aberdeenshire. Scotland. He is known for his award-winning documentaries and feature films. He wrote, directed, produced, edited, co-filmed and co-financed his own indie feature drama, Mother & Wild in 2023 which won numerous awards for Best Indie Feature. It went on to win Best Film Made in Hastings award at the Hastings Rocks International Film Festival. Mother & Wild was also a 2nd place runner up for Best feature at the Birmingham Film & Television Festival. It was also screened and won an award at the South Coast Film Festival Festival in Hastings in August 2023. Mark's films have been screened at 83 film festivals around the world and have won 18 awards.When starting out, Mark did not have the opportunity to go to University or film school in Aberdeenshire. His early filmmaking days, Mark collaborated with his stepfather Norman Adams, an author, who did not even work at all in the film industry. Their first ever short film together was Hobgoblin in 1999 which was shown at the Raindance Film Festival in 2000. Norman and Mark would make another two short films together.While Mark's other films are documentaries, like the award-winning Memories of Mortlake has been screened in over 38 film festivals, won 8 awards for best short documentary that was praised universally worldwide. While in mid July of 2023, the legendary director, Ken Loach in a London screening, said Memories of Mortlake was a touching film made by a passionate self-shooting filmmaker. While Mark's other documentary, Erwin W. Wyrsch: The Photo Journalist was screened at 18 film festivals and was nominated for a Unofex Swiss Film Award and won 2 awards for best short documentary.His 2nd feature, a documentary, Tristan v Christann won an award for Outstanding Achievement at the Swedish International Film Festival in May 2023 and Mark was also interviewed about his trials and tribulations of the film industry in the UK.Mark has 5 films in film festivals in 2023 and exclusively self-shoots and edits his documentary films entirely by himself using Panasonic Lumix GH cameras.Exec Producer, Gaynor Holmes from BBC Studios Scotland has said "Mark's four award-winning documentaries were astonishing, as they were made with no budget or crew whatsoever".Mark's web series, Tobias & The Angel won best web series at the Swedish International Film Festival and was screened at the BUEIFF Web Series festival in Buenos Aires in July 2023. While the rest of July, Mother & Wild won the Open award at the Pro Movie Maker Magazine in the UK.Mark is a member of the BECTU Writers, Producers & Directors Branch.In mid July 2023, Mark is filming his 3rd feature film, a documentary about the struggles of artists breaking into film & TV industries.Mark has also written several feature drama scripts that he feels would be great stories to see on the silver screen that he hopes to get into production.
