Imani was raised in Baltimore, MD and entered into the world of the arts at the early age of nine. She was a visual artist, performed in theatre shows and played the flute. She quickly realized that acting was her number one passion. She auditioned and got a recurring role on HBO's, 'The Wire' Season 4. Imani then attended Baltimore School for the Arts for high school where she studied the craft of acting. It was during her junior year in high school where she wrote a one-act for her classmates to perform. Scriptwriting became a new love of hers, and she was interested in learning more about that art form.Imani attended the California Institute of the Arts, where she received a BFA in acting. She was directed by James Avery in 'The Colored Museum' and James Franco in 'A Streetcar Named Desire'. While there, she had an internship on HBO's,'Treme' in theWriters' Office. After that internship ended, she interned at HBO in the Original Programming Department.After Imani graduated with a BFA from CalArts, she moved back to the East Coast. She auditioned and got accepted into a Shakespeare company in Connecticut. She wanted to learn more about the television industry and was curious about the process behind the camera. She was hired as an on set PA on the pilot of HBO's, 'The Deuce'. Once the show was picked up, she was working as the Writers' Office Assistant for Season 1. Imani was also blessed to have been cast in a role on episode 5 during that same season. It was a dream come true having had two HBO acting credits under her belt. After season 1 of 'The Deuce' ended, Imani moved back to California and got accepted into UCLA's Professional Program in Screenwriting. In addition, she worked as a substitute teacher, started her production company, Faith & Purpose Productions -- and went on auditions and took classes that her agent recommended. Imani wrote a pilot titled, '3 Blind Mice'.Once 'The Deuce' got renewed for its 2nd and 3rd season, Imani returned to New York to work as the Executive Producers' Assistant.Imani's career journey has been nothing short of a consistent blessing. Her name Imani means 'Faith' and Nia (her middle name) means 'Purpose' - both of which she tries to live by daily.
