Hailing from the townships of Zimbabwe during the time of the CivilWar, Sunu has managed in a very short space of time, to carve out acareer which sounds less like a real life and more like a movie. Ascholarship at a private school in Zimbabwe and excellent sportingprowess opened doors to international travel and ultimately anotherscholarship to the University of Cape Town, where he completed a degreein Organizational Psychology.Successful sporting achievements and a lucrative banking career werequickly overtaken by his long-term dream of acting and making movies.Sunu quickly worked his way up in the film industry, and within threeshort years garnered several prestigious directing awards, that werethe result not just of his refreshing talent, but also of his courage,diligence and persistence.Dubbed in the world of commercials' as one of the finest directingtalents, he continues to produce a body of work with a unique voicethat has inspired such prestigious clients as Nike, VW, Coca Cola andU.S Tennis Association to mention a few. His short film "Riding withSugar" based on his own full length feature script screened at Cannesin 2006. In June of the same year, he beat out several more seasonedHollywood directors and landed his first full length feature directingassignment with Lionsgate.Five months later, Sunu sold his home in South Africa, and moved hiswife and kids to Hollywood to make his feature directorial debut on'Pride' starring academy award nominee Terrence Howard, Bernie Mac, TomArnold and Kimberley Elise. The director and Howard were nominated fora NAACP Image Awards.Set in 1974 Philadelphia, Pride tells the true against the odds,underdog story of Jim Ellis (played by Howard), a black swimming coachwho recruits a motley group of troubled inner city youths, some of whomhad never swum before, and transforms them into a championship swimmingteam. Taking a look back at Sunu's life, one can imagine the honestyand insight that he is able to bring to a story about an underdog blackswim team who through determination, passion and burning ambition cameto realize their dreams.

Tivia: Against all advice, he sold everything he owned in South Africa to move his wife and two kids to pursue his movie career - this all before Pride was green-lit.Wrote over 50 letters to get admission to Falcon College. Eventually he was offered a partial scholarship to the private school where Sunu excelled in several sports including rugby, cricket, hockey and athletics.Was introduced to his manager Paul Nelson by actor Sammi Rotibi who was then shooting Lord Of War in South Africa with Nicolas Cage. Introduced to his agent Nicole Clemens by Hal Sadoff Exec Producer on Hotel Rwanda. Not accustomed to signing first time Directors, Clemens saw Sunu's reel by mistake thinking it was a trailer for one of her Director clients. She was blown away by the reel and signed the director immediately.Dreamt of becoming a professional rugby player before finally succumbing to his life long dream of life in the movies. Gave up a lucrative banking career to start as a runner in the industry before working his way up to directing TV commercials.
