David Luther was born in Munich to Czech and Slovak parents. Based in London, David is a DOP with a huge string of highly successful and critically acclaimed television dramas and films to his name over the last decade, from the BBC's Emmy-laden THE HOUR starring Dominic West to the THE WHITE QUEEN which received a Golden Globe nomination and an ASC Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography, to BBC's SHERLOCK - Final solution starring Benedict Cumberbatch.Having learnt at the feet of his father, the legendary Slovak cinematographer Igor Luther who worked with the likes of Volker Schlondorff and Andrzej Wajda in the 1970's and 80's on classics like THE TIN DRUM and DANTON, David studied cinematography first at the prestigious FAMU school in Prague, then a further three years at the National Film & Television School in Beaconsfield where he graduated with a first-class Honours.After making his name in commercials working for giants like Sony, VW and Dunhill, David moved into primetime television drama on blue-chip productions.David is fluent in English, German and Czech and lives in West London with his partner and two children. David has recently completed operating & lighting all 8 episodes of the acclaimed DAS BOOT remake for Bavaria Films. Directed by Andreas Prochaska, DAS BOOT is due for worldwide release end of 2018. David is currently lighting and operating the first two Episodes of the BBC's MOTHERFATHERSON starring Richard Gere & Helen McCrory.
