 Tig Notaro is an American stand-up comedian, writer, radio contributor, and actress. Her acclaimed album Live was nominated in 2014 for the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. The special Tig Notaro: Boyish Girl Interrupted was nominated in 2016 at the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special. Notaro was diagnosed with cancer in both breasts on July 30, 2012 and had a double mastectomy with no reconstructive surgery. Notaro opted out of chemo but decided to continue treatment with hormone blocking. After a show in Philadelphia, Notaro was hospitalized and required surgery for a cyst. As of June 2016 she is cancer-free.Did not release a stand-up comedy album until she was forty years old.The nickname Tig was given to her by her brother when they were young.In the 1990s, she founded and ran Tignation Promotions, a talent booking and management company in Denver, Colorado.Started stand-up while living in L.A. and promoting bands for a living.(October 24, 2015) Following a ten-month-long engagement, she married her girlfriend of two years, Stephanie Allynne, in her hometown of Pass Christian, Mississippi with stars like Sarah Silverman and Alicia Silverstone in attendance.Notaro was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and grew up in Mississippi and Texas.Appeared on the American talent show Last Comic Standing (2003) in 2006.
