He began the studies of law. But after his participation in the universitary theater he left the university and entered the school of dramatic arts in Madrid. In 1945 he debuted in the proffesional theater, and in the cinema in 1947.The perfect traveling buddy to Spanish cinema and television, Alexandre accompanied their evolution for six decades. For better or worse. During a very long life (born in 1917, he died in 2010 at age 92) and a very long career (Alexandre debuted on the boards in 1945, in the cinema in 1947 and on TV in 1963), the actor had had the time to appear in dozens of plays ("Mother Courage and her sons", "Tres hombres y un destino, ...) and his performances either on the big or the small screen amount to the staggering number of 456! Mainly, a character actor, sometimes confined to mere bits, Alexandre's everlasting presence has nevertheless earned him unfailing public recognition. As a matter of fact, the fondly remembered thespian proved as eclectic as he was prolific. He indeed took part in about all the film genres existing, for example in romances (Love Charm (1947)), message movies ( (Todos somos necesarios (1956)), social commentaries (El inquilino (1958)), thrillers (La mano de un hombre muerto (1962)), James Bond ersatzes (La muerte silba un blues (1964), sexy flicks (La playa de las seducciones (1967)) or spaghetti westerns (I'll Kill Him and Return Alone (1967). At the same time, Alexandre was making a name for himself on the international market due to his regular participation in works signed by two major names of Spanish cinema, Luis Garca Berlanga and Juan Antonio Bardem, from Welcome Mr. Marshall! (1953) to Lifesize (1974). In his last active years, the character actor turned to leading (old) man in two major works. Alexandre was indeed excellent as Fred, the hypochondriac widower, in the delicious Elsa y Fred (2005). As for his last contribution to his country's performing arts, it can be qualified as unforgettable. His embodiment of ailing and dying Caudillo Francisco Franco in 20-N: Los ltimos das de Franco (2008) constitutes the most impressive of swan songs.
